KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was honoured with the ‘Bintang Kehormat’ Award by the Girl Guides Association of Malaysia (GGAM) for the year 2024 during the opening ceremony of their 59th Conference and Annual General Meeting (AGM).

Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang was present to receive the award on behalf of Abang Johari.

Additionally, Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan and federal Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek were also among the esteemed recipients of this recognition.

The event, hosted at the Borneo Conference Centre Kuching (BCCK), saw Her Majesty Raja Permaisuri Agong Raja Zarith Sofiah bestow the prestigious ‘Bintang Kehormat’ and ‘Srikandi’ Awards, alongside honouring 66 members of the Girl Guides with the Queen’s Guide Awards.

Among those recognised with the ‘Srikandi’ Award were Yang Amat Mulia Datin Seri Ramlah Azizah Almarhum Sultan Nasirudin Shah of the Terengganu GGAM Branch, Datuk Dayang Morliah Awang Daud of the GGAM Sarawak Branch, as well as Datuk Kim Chan nee Lee Kim Yeok and Mildred Rita Leong from the GGAM Sabah Branch.

In addition, the event also featured the Prime Minister’s wife Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Dr Wan Ismail, who is the GGAM president, presenting the Girl Guide Awards to deserving members.

The ceremony was attended by GGAM deputy president Datuk Tengku Shireen Tengku Suleiman, the wife of the Sarawak State Governor and patron of GGAM Sarawak Branch Toh Puan Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, GGAM Chief Commissioner Datuk Yeoh Soo Keng, as well as Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian and wife Datin Amar Enn Ong Siok Ean.
