SINGAPORE: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg was among members of the Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s entourage to meet the republic’s Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, here today (Jan 30).
The Premier flew in here yesterday afternoon from Bintulu to join the prime minister on his first official visit to the island republic since he became the prime minister.
Soon after arrival, Anwar chaired a pre-council meeting with Malaysian officials at the Malaysian High Commission to discuss bilateral matters to be brought up during the courtesy call on Lee.
Abang Johari was present at the meeting to brief the prime minister on matters concerning economic cooperation between Sarawak and Singapore, particularly on renewable energy export and carbon trading.
The Premier later joined Anwar on a courtesy call on Singapore President Halimah Yacob.
Later this afternoon, the Premier will also be among Malaysian leaders scheduled to meet the Malaysian diaspora in the republic at a high tea hosted by Anwar at the Malaysian High Commission.
The Foreign Ministry in a press release said Anwar is visiting the republic at the invitation of Lee.
Other members of the prime minister’s delegation are Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi, Foreign Minister Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook, International Trade and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, Communications and Digital Minister Ahmad Fahmi Mohamed Fadzil.
Abang Johari will fly back to Sarawak later today via a stop-over in Bintulu where he will be guest-of-honour at the 10th anniversary dinner of Samalaju Industrial Port.
