Abang Johari promises Sarawak development boost in 2024 State Budget

KUCHING: Sarawakians can look forward to a wave of positive developments as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg is set to present the 2024 State Budget at the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly (DUN) sitting on Monday.

He said the state government’s successful revenue increase will translate into beneficial outcomes for the people.

“Finally, just wait for our budget on Monday, I will give you some good news on Monday for the benefit of the people of Sarawak,” he said.

Abang Johari, who is also the Finance and New Economy Minister said this during the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy’s (SCORE) 15th anniversary dinner at Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK) last night (Nov 17).

A total of RM10.797 billion was allocated under the 2023 State Budget, with RM3.997 billion for operating expenditure while RM6.8 billion for appropriation to the development fund account to finance the implementation of various development programmes and projects.

The 2023 Sarawak Budget themed ‘Sarawak First: Towards an inclusive, prosperous, and harmonious society is anchored on anchoring five principles.

The five principles are developing a more robust, competitive, and equitable economy; building Sarawak as a competitive and resilient state; creating a smart society underpinned by digital technologies, knowledge, and innovation; continuing to foster a united, harmonious and caring society where efforts would not leave anyone behind, and continuing to plan forward for fiscal sustainability to ensure future security for children and grandchildren as well as generations to come.

Meanwhile, the Second Meeting for the Second Session of the 19th Sarawak DUN is the last sitting for this year and will be held from Nov 20 to 29.
