KUCHING: Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan said he was leaving it to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg to decide when to call for the 12th state election which will be due early next year.
“When the time comes, the chief minister will determine when it should be held.
“Election aside, what is important is that we continue to do our work for the people,” Awang Tengah told reporters on Monday (Nov 2).
The deputy chief minister had, earlier on, handed over 206 land titles under Section 18 of the Sarawak Land Code (SLC) to landowners from Kampung Rantau Panjang, Batu Kawa.
On whether or not there was any discussion with the chief minister on the state election, Awang Tengah, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president, kept mum.
The State Legislative Assembly (DUN) term is set to expire by the middle of 2021.
When officiating at the earth-breaking ceremony of the Unit for Other Religions (Unifor) Complex at Ong Tiang Swee Road on Oct 20, Abang Johari hinted that the state election would not be happening soon.
“We are not facing an election, so don’t worry. It is still far,” he said in his speech.
