KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s three deputies and his Cabinet members will be sworn into office on Tuesday (Jan 4). 

The ceremony will be held at 3pm at the State Legislative Assembly Complex in Petra Jaya here.

Sarawak has a new deputy chief minister in the person of Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, while the other two deputy chief ministers are Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan.

It is expected that 10 Cabinet ministers will take their oaths led by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, followed by the 26 assistant ministers.

The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government will feature 11 new faces as assistant ministers including Datuk Majang Renggi, Michael Tiang, Datuk Gerald Rentap Jabu and Datuk Juanda Jaya.

The new state Cabinet lineup is expected to receive their letters of appointments from Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.

They will take their oaths of office before Taib witnessed by Abang Johari. After that, they will sign oath documents.

Abang Johari, who is also GPS chairman, was sworn in as chief minister on Dec 18 after the four-party coalition won the 12th state election.
