KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s leadership has significantly contributed to Sarawak’s economic growth, financial stability, and alignment with sustainable practices, paving the way for a promising future.
Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said under the leadership of the Premier, Sarawak has achieved remarkable milestones and the achievements become a major catalyst to transform Sarawak as a developed region by 2030.
“Last year, Sarawak attained the recognition of being a high-income state by the World Bank, which is a significant accomplishment,” he said while congratulating Abang Johari for his 7th anniversary as the Premier of Sarawak.
Aside from that, Dr Abdul Rahman also said Abang Johari has successfully asserted Sarawak’s rights under the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63), with achievements such as the negotiation agreement with Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) through the Commercial Settlement Agreement (CSA).
“Additionally, Sarawak gained recognition for imposing sales tax on petroleum products, control over gas distribution, constitutional amendments, and representation of Sarawak in Inland Revenue Board of Malaysia (LHDN).
“These developments have translated into tangible results, with Sarawak’s revenue from the State Sales Tax (SST) on petroleum and gas witnessing a continuous annual increase,” he said.
Notably, for the first six months of last year, he said Sarawak’s revenue reached RM12 billion, matching the total for the entire previous year.
“Looking ahead, Premier Abang Johari, remains committed to sustainable practices, introducing green initiatives such as Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), algae-based aviation fuel, diesel, and petrol, along with advancements in areas like hydrogen, ammonia, digital economy, green energy, and carbon industries.
“This reflects Sarawak’s proactive approach to align with global developments,” he said.
