BAU: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah expressed his admiration for the friendly and interesting skills of the Bidayuh community, stating that such character is good for the tourism industry.

“This kind of character and personality would make the tourist feel very welcome whenever they visit the Bidayuh community.

“You see, I have been to several places such as Bau, Semadang Safari, and Silbaur in Serian, and I feel very welcomed wherever I go,” said the Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister.

He said this during his speech when officiating the Bung Bratak Day at Bung Bratak Heritage Centre in Bau today (May 1).

Abdul Karim also added that many Bidayuh people work in the tourism, hotel and hospitality industry, for their trait of being friendly towards tourists.

“You go to any hotels in Kuching and you will see there are Bidayuh people working with the hotel.

“For the employers to bring them in, working with them shows how friendly they are towards the tourists,” he added.

Speaking at the ceremony, he expressed his hope that the festival could be nurtured and promoted well, making it a huge annual attraction.

“These are some of the tourism products that we want to promote to tourists, because they are longing to see such a unique culture.

“Therefore, we will continue to promote and uplift any festival related to the culture, cuisine, race and ethnicities in Sarawak,” he added.
