KUCHING: Datuk Seri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah has praised the seminar “Positioning Sarawak as a Key Tourism Hub in Asean” for its crucial and timely impact on Sarawak’s tourism sector.
The Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister noted that as the state accelerates its Post Covid-19 Development Strategy 2030 (PCDS2030), the seminar represents a critical step in positioning Sarawak as a leading destination for eco-tourism and business events in the Asean region.
“Under this strategy, rolled out in 2021, our tourism sector has been identified as a key driver for Sarawak’s economic growth. It aims to make our state a leading destination for eco-tourism and business events in the Asean region.
“The organisation of this seminar is timely, and kudos to both UiTM and AirAsia for their joint undertaking.
“With Sarawak’s rich biodiversity and vibrant cultural heritage, the influx of visitors is poised to significantly boost the local economy,” he said.
Highlighting upcoming events like the iconic Rainforest World Music Festival, Abdul Karim expressed optimism about Sarawak’s growing appeal.
The seminar featured nine expert speakers and panellists from various tourism sectors, offering fresh perspectives and innovative strategies to enhance Sarawak’s global tourism profile.
The seminar also celebrated AirAsia’s achievement as the “World’s Best Low-Cost Airline” for the 15th consecutive year, underscoring the importance of strong partnerships in the tourism industry’s growth.
“We hope AirAsia and its dynamic team will continue to grow in Sarawak, providing job opportunities to our local folks and helping the business community to grow too.
“We also look forward to working together with AirAsia and all stakeholders in the tourism industry in realising our mission, as rightly outlined by the seminar’s theme – ‘Positioning Sarawak as a Key Tourism Hub in Asean’,” he added.
