KUCHING: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi (Dr) Abang Johari Tun Abang Openg received three courtesy visits at his office in Wisma Bapa Malaysia here yesterday morning.
The first to visit him was the Director-General of Customs Department Malaysia, Datuk Seri Subroniam Tholasy.
It was Subroniam’s first official visit on the chief minister since his appointment as director-general last March. The main purpose of the visit was to share his views with the chief minister as well as to outline the department’s plans to help the Sarawak government in its development projects.
It was also to discuss details on Custom policies on the new digital economy and ways to help the State achieve its new objectives. During the visit, Subroniam gave the assurance that the Customs Department was always ready to discuss matters on taxation as well as to establish a good working relation with the State government.
He was accompanied by Sarawak Director of Customs, Sharifah Halimah Tuanku Taha and Assistant Director Musa Hamden. Next to visit was the Maybank delegation led by its Group President and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Abdul Farid Alias.
Among the delegation were Maybank Sarawak Regional Director Nasir Khan and Head of Wisma Satok Branch (Community Distribution) Abang Jamili Abang Julai.
The aim of the visit was for Maybank to establish closer rapport with the State government as well as to lend a hand in the latter’s development projects. The third delegation to call on the chief minister was from the Cambridge Academy of Therapeutic Sciences led by Professor Christopher R. Lowe.
Professor Lowe’s aim was to explore ways in which the academy could work together with the State government in the field of research and development.
It was also a reciprocal to a visit to Cambridge by Minister of Education, Science and Technological Research Dato Sri Michael Manyin last October. Accompanying Lowe for the visit yesterday morning was Manyin.
