PUTRAJAYA: Angkatan Belia Islam Malaysia (ABIM), along with 58 non-governmental organisations (NGOs), yesterday submitted a memorandum to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, expressing strong support for the unity government under his leadership.

The memorandum titled ‘Rakyat Mahu Kerajaan Stabil’ was handed over by ABIM deputy president Mohammad Fazril Mohd Saleh to senior political secretary to the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin.

ABIM secretary-general Aliemran Norashid, when approached by the media, said that the organisation, along with other NGOs, want the government formed with the consent of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Al-Sultan Abdullah Ri’ayatuddin Al-Mustafa Billah Shah to be given the opportunity to lead the country until the end of the parliamentary term.

“Today (Jan 24), we submit this people’s memorandum to express support and unity with the existing government. We want this government to remain stable and continue to bring prosperity to the country in terms of economic development, unity and overall well-being.

“We want the current government to lead the country in this five-year period without disruption from unlawful agendas like ‘tebuk atap’ and ‘pintu belakang’ (backdoor manoeuvres),” he said, adding that the memorandum was also sent via email to all Members of Parliament.

The memorandum, among others, states that the majority of the people want the government to prioritise national development efforts and institutional reforms while focusing on holistic economic growth.

It also proposes the establishment of legal mechanisms, such as the Fixed-Term Parliament Act, to ensure that the elected government remains in power until the end of its term. – BERNAMA
