KUCHING: About 7,000 participants of varying ages joined the Mayor’s Walk 2023 at Canna Lili Boulevard at the compound of Kuching City South Council (MBKS) yesterday.

The highly anticipated 3km walk, which commenced at 7 am, was kicked off by Deputy Premier Datuk Seri Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government.

One of the contestants with an excited face wins a bicycle.

This particular aspect holds substantial importance within the framework of the city council’s Youth, Culture, and Sports initiative, aimed at promoting and cultivating a robust lifestyle among the residents of Kuching.

This event has been established based on the Principles of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), specifically SDG 3: Good Health and Well-Being and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

It also complements the MBKS’ vision of Healthy and Smart Cities, with the primary objective being to enhance the general health and well-being of the community.

The majority of participants successfully completed the circuit within a span of one hour, while the main highlight of the event encompassed a fortuitous draw session offering alluring prizes including mountain bikes, tablets, water heaters, table fans, and vacuums.
