BINTULU: A distressing incident occurred on Saturday when a vehicle from Senator Abun Sui Anyi’s delegation skidded off the path and landed in a ditch at KM65 on Jalan Bakun-Bintulu around 6.30 pm.

Fortunately, Abun, who was travelling in a separate car, highlighted the dangerous condition of the road, especially at a bend on the federal highway.

Many have complained about the road being riddled with potholes, making it uneven.

“Even though we were only driving at 70km per hour, the mishap occurred,” Abun said.

He added, “From what regular travellers on this route tell me, similar incidents are not rare, and sadly, some have even led to fatalities.”

Given these concerns, Abun is urging the Ministry of Works to assess and ensure consistent upkeep of this highway.

“If the situation demands, let’s bring in a reliable contractor. The road’s condition is deteriorating rapidly,” he stressed. Otherwise, this problematic road might continue to be a hazard for its users.
