KUCHING: A delegation from the Associated Chinese Chambers of Commerce and Industry of Sarawak (ACCCIS) explored new economic opportunities during a four-day working visit to West Kalimantan, Indonesia.
The delegation led by its president Datuk Tan Jit Kee visited the region to explore business opportunities that could benefit both territories.
The Consul General of Indonesia in Kuching, Raden Sigit Witjaksono, Consul of Economy Bapak Theodorus Nugroho and Consul Administration Officer Alexandri Legawa accompanied the delegation throughout the trip.
The delegation visited Pontianak and paid a courtesy call to the Governor of West Kalimantan Province H Sutarmidji.
“Also joining the meeting were Consul of Malaysia in Pontianak Azizul Zekri and Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry West Kalimantan Chapter Chairman A Rizqi Darsono, the association said.
Among the matters discussed were related to the development of infrastructure in Pontianak, particularly the road from Entikong to Pontianak.
This required the attention of Indonesian authorities to facilitate the cross-border movement of goods and services, the total opening up of the CIQ in Entikong and Tebedu as well as the resumption of direct flights between Kuching and Pontianak.
The delegation then visited the West Kalimantan Chamber of Commerce and Industry, where they were received by the Chairman Santyoso Tio and its committees.
The president hoped that through the visit, the cooperation between the both sides could be strengthened, and potential areas for development of economy could be explored.
This includes economic and trade issues, particularly in the sectors of agriculture, tourism and logistics with the objective to intensify bilateral trade between Sarawak and Kalimantan, it added.
The delegation also paid a courtesy visit to the Consul of Malaysia in Pontianak to exchange business information as well as on the potential areas and opportunities in West Kalimantan especially after the relocation of the capital from Jakarta to Nusantara.
After that, Tan and his delegation paid a courtesy visit to the Mayor of Singkawang, Sumastro.
In all the engagement sessions, Tan shared the economic development and business opportunities in Sarawak, particularly the vision of the Premier of Sarawak, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg on green economy, renewable energy and hydrogen industry.
During the May 25-28 visit Tan was accompanied by his wife Datin Teo Foo Kiew, Vice President Kuek Eng Mong, Secretary-General Datuk Jonathan Chai, Deputy Treasurer Ho Siew Hua and Chairman of Digital Economy, Rodger Chan.
