SIBU: A 21-year-old youth today appeared in the Sessions Court here on charges of sexually assaulting two minors.
The accused faces two charges under Section 14 (a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and is punishable under Section 14 of the same Act.
The Section provides for imprisonment not exceeding 20 years and also caning if convicted.
However, no plea was taken from the accused.
Deputy public prosecutor Mohamad Arif Aizuddin Masrom requested that the accused be sent to Sentosa Hospital for mental evaluation.
Judge Caroline Bee Majanil granted the request and the accused will be arraigned in court on Sept 8.
The accused is charged with physically assaulting a boy and a girl in March at a house in Jalan Sentosa Barat.
