SIBU: All residents of rental houses, coffee shop workers, factories, workshops, industrial premises and others at Jalan Lanang, Tebingan Rejang Esplanade, and Jalan Maju will undergo active case detection (ACD) from Monday and Tuesday.

The decision made by the Sibu Divisional Disaster Management Committee (DDMC) is to curb the spread of Jalan Maju and Bulatan Aman clusters, both of which started from Jalan Lanang.

The coordinator Dr Annuar Rapaee, when announcing this on the daily Sibu Covid-19 update on social media today said that operations will be from 9am to 1pm on both days.

“I urge those who live or work in the affected areas to undergo a smear test. I also ask all employers to allow all their employees to go for the tests over the course of the two days.

“We want to curb the spread of the two clusters which are very active,” said Dr Annuar, who is also Public Health and Housing Assistant Minister.

He also asked everyone especially those renting shop houses, workers in coffee shops, factories, workshops, industries and so on along Jalan Lanang to pay attention to the places visited by previous positive cases.

The Education, Science and Technology Research Assistant Minister said that out of the 32 positive cases recorded today, six were those who underwent mandatory smear tests to operate the Ramadan Bazaar before it got cancelled.

“Fortunately we imposed this condition for early detection before, so for the six positive cases, they are not allowed to do business during the month of Ramadan,” he said, adding that the Ramadan Bazaar at Pelangi Food Kiosk Kampung Nangka and Bandung Walk in Jalan Bandung were also cancelled.

However, the Nangka assemblymen said traders who have done business at both venues on a daily basis before will continue as usual but must adhere to strict standard operating procedures (SOPs).

“We will continue to monitor the two venues and will hold a meeting with the Sibu Municipal Council (MPS) to find ways to tighten and monitor the two places, especially Bandung Walk.
