SERIAN: Despite pressure from various sources, Sarawak will continue to have adequate supply of eggs and chickens according to Datuk Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi.
The Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs Minister said his ministry had discussed with the Sarawak Livestock Breeders’ Association (SLBA) to tackle the issue.
“An engagement session was conducted with the SLBA so that they can assure the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (KPDNHEP) and users sufficient supply of eggs and chicken.
“However, I was made understood that the distribution of the supply is according to the needs of any place.
“So far, the supply is still adequate and not at a level that could be disruptive, he said during his walkabout at the Malaysian Family Sale Programme (PJKM) here, today.
Nanta noted that good bargains were on offer at the two-day programme starting today.
He said the offers were hoped would help to alleviate the burdens of local people here.
“Among the products that could be purchased are cooking oil, eggs, chicken and rice.
“This is in line with the objectives of the programme to help reduce the burden of Malaysians in general.
“Many thanks to involved industry players, KPDNHEP and Serian Nutribest Fresh Mart as the host for the programme this time,” he said.
At the programme, he also allocated some subsidies to help reduce the cost of the selling prices of selected items.
Also present at the programme were Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus and Deputy Director of Sarawak KPDNHEP Peter J Berinus Agang.
