BINTULU: Police have arrested an unemployed man in connection with the murder of an elderly woman in Kampung Dato on Friday night (July 26).

Acting on public tip-offs, the 29-year-old was taken into custody by the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) in a budget hotel at Taman Sri Dagang around 12.30pm yesterday (July 27).

Bintulu OCPD Supt Nixon Joshua Ali said that the suspect is the adopted grandson of the victim, an octogenarian.

“Following interrogation, the suspect led police to a gold shop in Bintulu Market, where it was discovered he had sold a broken chain.

“The chain was confiscated as evidence, and the suspect has been detained for further investigation,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.

Last Friday, police received a report pertaining to the incident around 11pm. The 80-something woman was found dead in her home, and initial assessments suggest she had been dead for less than 24 hours.
