THE issue of construction sites for telecommunication projects needs to be discussed beforehand to identify the proper locations for telecommunication towers, and ownership problems of construction sites can be avoided.

Baleh assemblyman Nicholas Kudi Jantai said that the injection of funds totalling RM1.89bil by the federal government to expedite the development of telecommunication projects to extend the telecommunication network to remote areas has encountered problems that are hindering the progress momentum of implementation.

“This includes the management of tower sites and misunderstandings between contractors and landowners. This occurs because the involved contractors do not communicate clearly with the landowners.

“I have received reports from landowners that the towers have been built, but until now, these landowners have not yet received compensation as promised by the project implementers.

“There are also cases where contractors and implementing agencies do not inform the Resident’s Office, District Office, and Land and Survey Office in advance about the project.

“I advise any implementing agency or contractor that it is important to inform the relevant departments and agencies in advance so that if any problems arise later on, officers from the respective offices can help resolve issues related to the project site,” he said during the debate on the 2024 State Budget at the State Legislative Assembly sitting today (Nov 23).

He said that through such discussions, it will help reduce delays in project completion and assist the aspirations of rural residents to experience what their urban counterparts enjoy.

Furthermore, he said this can also realize the state government’s agenda to provide internet coverage and a complete communication system to all corners of the state.
