KUCHING: New advertisers are advised to apply for the necessary advertisement license before erecting any billboards or engaging in advertising activities.

Chairman of Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) Tan Kai said by doing so businesses could avoid unnecessary legal complications and contribute to the overall enhancement of the community’s appearance.

“Those who fail to comply with the by-laws within the stipulated timeframe will result in the issuance of compounds.

“These compounds serve to encourage timely adherence to the regulations and underline the council’s commitment in having an appealing environment for our residents and visitors,” he said in a statement yesterday.

He added that excessive advertisements not only deteriorated the visual aesthetics of the community but also posed potential safety hazards and environmental concerns.

“To address this issue and ensure the well-being of our community, the Padawan Municipal Council has taken proactive measures.

“Notices have already been issued to targeted commercial premises with excessive advertisement signage, urging them to comply under the “The Local Authorities (Advertisements) By-laws, 2012” and apply for the required advertisement license.

“The Council emphasises that compliance with these regulations is mandatory for all businesses operating within the municipality,” he added.

Tan then said that MPP was dedicated to ensuring the sustainable development and progress of its municipality.

“We firmly believe that the regulation and enforcement of the law will not only improve the visual landscape, but also create a safer and more attractive environment for everyone,” he said.

He stated for further information or assistance regarding advertisement regulations and licensing procedures, concerned parties were encouraged to contact the MPP’s Licensing Section at Health and Municipal Services Division.

“We appreciate the cooperation and support of the business community and the public as we work together to create a more vibrant, visually appealing and safe Padawan Municipality,” he added.
