KUCHING: Fifty percent of a single-storey house in RPR Batu Kawa was destroyed in an afternoon fire yesterday. There were no reports of casualties.
A 28-year-old woman stayed in the house occasionally with her elderly parents but during the fire which started at 4.47pm, no one was in the house.
Neighbours, who saw smoke, alerted firemen. The woman rushed home and cried after being informed by neighbours about the fire.
She said her parents had gone back to Kampung Padawan at 3pm to check their new house there.
The fire was put out at 5.30pm. Neighbours also broke the windscreen of a car parked in the house to push it out. The roof of an adjacent house was slightly burnt in the blaze.
The Fire and Rescue Department is investigating the cause and losses in the fire.
