KUCHING: A 10-door workers’ quarters and nine vehicles were destroyed in an afternoon fire at the Jalan Bako industrial estate today (Sept 3).

Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported in the 1.48 pm incident. The exact number of victims affected were not known.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said that firefighters from Tabuan Jaya station were deployed to the scene, about 18km away, after receiving a distress call.

In addition, Bako auxiliary firefighters were also dispatched to the scene.

Upon arrival, the firefighters found that the quarters, two cars and seven motorcycles were engulfed by flames.

Extinguishing work was carried out with water sourced from a fire truck and the blaze was brought under control at 2.21 pm.

Once the situation was deemed safe and there was no risk of reignition, the firefighters ended the operation at 2.57 pm.

The cause of the fire and losses incurred are still under investigation.
