KUCHING: A fire broke out and destroyed an upper floor of a store selling religious artefacts located at Premier 101 along Jalan Tun Jugah this afternoon (June 8).

The Fire and Rescue Operations Centre (Bomba) received an emergency call at 11.49 am pertaining to the accident, prompting firefighters from Tabuan Jaya and Batu Lintang fire stations to rush to the scene.

Fortunately, there was no casualties or injuries reported in the incident.

Bomba officer said the affected size of the area measuring 80 by 60 feet sustained almost 80 per cent damage by the fire, which stored mostly papers and boxes.

The flames were brought under control by the firefighters. Meanwhile, as of 2 pm today, the overhaul works are still ongoing to ensure no risk of reignition.

Traffic police were also at the scene to assist with traffic flow.

Present at the scene was Kuching South City Council (MBKS) mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng.
