KUCHING: An agent of the LNG Jupiter ship, who was guilty for illegally bringing in an Indonesian crew member, was fined RM4,000 on Aug 18.
Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said the Immigration Department took legal action against the accused at the Bintulu Sessions Court.
“The accused was charged under Section 43 of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for having brought an Indonesian crew member into Malaysia without going through examination by Immigration officers at the entrance.
“The accused has been fined RM4,000 by the court and if he fails to pay the fine, the accused will face a five-month jail term from the date of prosecution. The accused paid the fine on the same day (Aug 18).
“Meanwhile, the Indonesian crew member has been deported back to Indonesia and blacklisted by the Immigration Department,” he said during a Covid-19 update on Monday (Aug 24).
Uggah said that the Immigration Department would take stern action against any party that tried to enter the country illegally and legal action would be taken against any person violating the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Meanwhile, he said police had issued a total of 24 compounds to individuals for failing to comply with the standard operating procedures (SOPs) in public places.
“Kuching topped the list with 16 compounds issued, followed by two compounds issued in Kota Samarahan and Sarikei.
“One compound each was issued to individuals in Betong, Mukah, Serian and Bau.”
On SOP compliance monitoring, teams had inspected 1,640 premises throughout Sarawak.
These included 329 restaurants, supermarkets (198), banks (121), public markets (86), places of worship (82), leisure places (56), government offices (52), hawker stalls (27), construction sites (25), factories (11), and others (653).
He also informed that 1,582 vehicles were inspected in six “Ops Benteng” roadblocks in five districts — two in Lundu with one each in Bau, Serian, Sri Aman, and Lubok Antu.
