KUCHNG: The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) Sarawak has targeted a total of 110,000 households and 1,750 organisations statewide in its 2024 agricultural census.
In a statement, it stated that in 2022 the agriculture sector in Sarawak recorded an added value of RM14.5 billion compared to RM14.4 billion the previous year.
“This sector contributed 10.4 per cent to Sarawak’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) and is the second-largest contributor to the Agriculture sector in Malaysia, accounting for 14.7 per cent.
“These statistics are crucial for national development policies, highlighting the significance of the agricultural census in gathering information related to all agricultural sectors in Sarawak,” it said.
DOSM also stated that the latest Agriculture Census Management engagement session will be implemented in 2024, involving key agricultural agencies to prepare for the implementation.
“This session strengthens strategic relationships between state and regional agencies in Sarawak, aiming to inform them about the planning and development of the agricultural sector,” it added.
DOSM has launched OpenDOSM Next Gen as a medium providing a data catalog and visualisation to facilitate users in analysing various data. OpenDOSM Next Gen is an open data sharing platform accessible through the portal https://open.dosm.gov.my.
The Malaysian government has declared October 20 each year as National Statistics Day (MyStats Day) with the theme “Statistics, the Pulse of Life.”
