KUCHING: Over 300 professionals from 10 different countries are participating in the Congress on Sustainable Agriculture and Food Security (COSAFS 2022) at The Waterfront Hotel here.
The congress organised by Univerisiti Putra Malaysia Kampus Bintulu (UPMKB) together with Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity and Regional Development is an umbrella of three concurrent international conferences namely International Scientific Conference on Indigenous Crops 2022 (ISCIC2022), International Conference on Fisheries and Animal Sciences 2022 (FISAS2022) and International Conference on Food and Industrial Crops 2022 (ICFIC2022).
According to Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM) Vice Chancellor Datuk Professor Dr Mohd Roslan Sulaiman, these conferences anticipate participants among academics, research scientists, policymakers, and officials from public and private sectors with thought-provoking keynote lectures as well as oral and poster presentations in the field of sustainable agriculture and food security.
“Expectantly, presenters and delegates would take this opportunity to explore and exchange new knowledge through research and innovation in line with the conference’s objectives to promote and strengthen international and national collaborations in sustainable agriculture and food security,” he said in his welcoming address on Wednesday (Sept 21).
Mohd Roslan also thanked the state government and Ministry of Food Industry, Commodity, and Regional Development for sponsoring COSAFS 2022 as the effort aligns with UPKMB as a knowledge transfer centre in Sarawak.
He said UPM appreciates and grateful to the state government on the trust given, adding that UPM will continuously assist in contributing to the local community.
“With the help and support from Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg, the state government, Minister Datuk Seri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom and expertise from UPM, I believe we can accomplish more remarkable achievements at attaining the goal of developing sustainable agriculture and food security.
“This can be done through providing producers, researchers, consumers, organisations, institutions, corporate bodies, and communities with the opportunity to strengthen alliances towards achieving sustainable agriculture or for some becoming the net food exporter like Sarawak by the year 2030.
“This is in line with the theme of COSAFS 2022 ‘People, Planet, and Profit’,” he said.
