LONDON: Paul McCartney, the renowned member of The Beatles, has expressed both awe and intrigue towards the implementation of AI (Artificial Intelligence) technology in music production.

In a recent interview with the BBC, McCartney revealed that AI technology was harnessed to extract John Lennon’s voice from old demo recordings, with the aim of creating The Beatles’ final song.

During the production of the 2021 documentary series, “The Beatles: Get Back,” directed by Peter Jackson, AI was utilised to separate the distinct vocals of The Beatles from the accompanying background noise.

The collaborative effort involving AI is set to unveil the new song by the end of this year.

McCartney enthusiastically shared, “Jackson managed to retrieve John’s voice from the tape and the piano,” emphasising the impressive capabilities of AI in isolating specific elements.

Guided by Jackson, the AI technology successfully distinguished between vocals and guitar sounds, effectively extracting the desired guitar parts from the recordings.

Media speculations point towards the likelihood of the AI-extracted song being an unfinished love ballad composed by Lennon in 1978, titled “Now And Then.”

This extraordinary find was discovered on a cassette labelled “For Paul,” a heartfelt gift from Lennon’s widow, Yoko Ono, presented to McCartney.

It is worth noting that this is not the first instance where McCartney has collaborated with AI technology. Previously, during the Glastonbury Festival, AI facilitated a virtual duet between McCartney and Lennon, enriching the live performance of their song “I’ve Got a Feeling.”

The intersection of AI and music continues to inspire and captivate musicians and audiences alike, as it unlocks new possibilities for artistic expression and revives the timeless melodies of music legends like John Lennon.
