KUCHING: Nuzuluddin Abdul Razak hopes reports that highlight the community’s less fortunate will inspire many to act by lending a helping hand.

The Astro Awani Borneo journalist said the public could do their part in other ways besides the usual donation of money.

He spoke during the ‘Program Santun Kasih’ – a segment about five needy families here aired on Astro Awani Borneo today.

“We came to know of the five families from those aware of their plight. Among others, we helped them to get better shelter so that they can live more comfortably.

“Besides that, we also assisted in the dissemination of information regarding the help that they can get. We have worked with the government and relevant authorities such as the Social Welfare Department and the respective assemblymen or assemblywomen.”

“Assistance can be in various forms, not just financial. It can be in the form of dissemination of information about the needy so there will be awareness which then can translate into assistance,” he explained.

Nuzuluddin hoped assistance could be given to more needy families through this initiative (Program Santun Kasih).

“This is the first step in helping those who are facing hardships. We want to see our initiative leading to the less fortunate getting help to improve their situation.

“We hope that we will be able to help more people, not only in Kuching but in other districts and perhaps throughout the state.”

He added that Program Santun Kasih could also bring to the attention of welfare authorities and non-governmental organisations those yet to get any kind of aid.
