IN light of Sarawak’s ambitious plans to have its own airline and also a new airport, the state’s leaders are voicing their optimism over the potential growth and prosperity this initiative could bring to the region.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunication cum Belaga assemblyman, Datuk Liwan Lagang shares his views on this transformative vision, emphasising the positive impact on accessibility and the local economy.

Sarawak Tribune: What steps should be taken to ensure that Sarawak’s new airport and airline contribute to sustainable tourism and eco-friendly travel in the region?

Liwan: For us in Sarawak, for example, if you want to travel to Singapore, you have to go to Kuala Lumpur first. Just imagine. So I think this is the right move, because Sarawak is as big as Semenanjung Malaysia. It is a great move for Sarawak to have its own airlines as it will benefit the community more.

Sarawak Tribune: On Sarawak building a new airport, what are you views on this?
