MUKAH: Mukah requires a complete and efficient transportation system, said Mukah MP Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib.
Hence, she stressed that the ongoing construction of the new Mukah airport was timely and not a waste of the government’s money as alleged by certain quarters.
“With the completion of education centres and a number of ongoing developments, Mukah is in need of a bigger airport in line with the state government’s mission to increase tourism this year.
“Hopefully the state government will continue with the planned development,” she told the media, adding that the first phase of the airport’s construction was almost complete.
Meanwhile, Tellian assemblyman Yussibnosh Balo said the construction of the Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (Score) in Mukah has provided employment opportunities to locals and helped to boost Mukah’s economic growth.
“My task now is to continue with development projects in Mukah. I hope the people here will continue to give their support to GPS leaders to make the planned developments a reality.
“I also hope the whole Tellian constituency can be reached by roads, and residents can fully enjoy the water and electricity facilities in the near future in line with the policy of the late Pehin Sri Adenan Satem – to focus on rural development,” he explained.
Yussibnosh hoped with the completion of Mukah’s new airport, more business opportunities would be opened to Bumiputeras.
“This will allow local entrepreneurs to market their products more efficiently. In addition, it can also open opportunities to tour operators in Mukah, Dalat and Balingian to expand their business,” he said.
According to him, he planned to apply for the construction of the Sungai Mukah Waterfront as an attraction to tourists visiting Mukah to witness the Kaul Mukah Festival.
“I hope the state government will agree with my proposal as well as provide the allocation,” he pointed out.
For Balingian assemblyman Abdul Yakub Arbi, he hoped local authorities such as the Dalat/Mukah District Council could provide a site for villagers to market their farm produce.
