KUCHING: Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia’s (BERSATU) Saratok incumbent Datuk Ali Biju will defend his seat under the Perikatan Nasional (PN) ticket.
Following the announcement of election candidates for the 15th general election by PN president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin tonight, Ali said he is honoured to carry the banner of PN in the contest for the GE15 in the parliamentary seat of Saratok.
“When I withdrew from contesting for the state seat of Krian, I had sincerely campaigned for the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP) candidate and kept my end of the agreement that was made between both parties.
“Due to circumstances overtaken by events, my president’s decision that I carry the PN symbol in GE15, does not arise,” he said in a statement tonight.
He also said PN is part of the federal government and a partner of Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS).
“PN and GPS are currently partners in the federal government.
“As a Federal Deputy Minister, I enjoy serving the country alongside my friends and colleagues from GPS,” he said.
In the 2018’s GE14, Ali Biju who contested under the Pakatan Harapan (PH) ticket defended his seat in a straight fight against Barisan Nasional’s (BN) Subeng Mula by winning a vote of 11,848 and a 989 vote majority.
