KUCHING: Alibaba Cloud, the digital technology and intelligence backbone of Alibaba Group, has extended its partnership with Sarawak Information Systems Sdn Bhd (SAINS), an ICT systems integrator and solutions provider in Sarawak.

The renewed collaboration announced today aims to enhance Sarawak’s digital public services and promote sustainable practices through advanced cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) solutions.

“SAINS is committed to driving Sarawak’s digital transformation to become a developed state by 2030, ensuring economic prosperity, social inclusivity, and environmental sustainability,” said  SAINS chief executive officer Busiai Seman.

“Extending our collaboration with Alibaba Cloud aligns perfectly with this mission. Alibaba Cloud brings a wealth of expertise and a wide range of solutions to fuel our initiatives, which are crucial for our goals.”

General Manager of Malaysia, Alibaba Cloud Intelligence, Kun Huang, echoed this sentiment, highlighting the importance of a stable and strong digital foundation.

“A dynamic digital economy will require digital infrastructure, talents, skills and inclusivity,” he said.

“As a leading cloud service provider, it is our great honour to deepen the collaboration to assist SAINS in delivering innovative and sustainable digital public services, creating effective solutions that benefit the digital transformation of Sarawak.”

The partnership was formalised with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Alibaba Cloud and SAINS at Alibaba Cloud Valley in Hangzhou, China, marking a significant step towards accelerating Sarawak’s digital transformation and sustainability goals.

Alibaba Cloud and SAINS will now focus on two key areas: digital public services and green AI.

This extended partnership will leverage Alibaba Cloud’s secure, robust cloud technology and innovative AI-powered solutions to drive Sarawak’s digital and sustainable development.

The digital public service initiative under this collaboration aims to elevate Sarawak’s public services by integrating Alibaba Cloud’s AI technologies to streamline operations, improve service delivery, and enhance user-centric efficiency.

Pilot projects within public sector operations will be identified to benefit from AI, improving decision-making and resource management.

Additionally, a joint framework will be developed to measure the effectiveness and efficiency of AI applications in the public sector.

In alignment with the green AI initiative, Alibaba Cloud and SAINS aim to collaboratively provide AI-driven sustainability solutions and professional services to support the Sarawak government in progressing towards its sustainability objectives.

These initiatives include creating custom sustainability toolkits, enhancing efficiency in sustainability assessments, and leveraging Alibaba Cloud’s advanced cloud and AI technologies.

The collaboration also aims to support the Sarawak government in setting sustainability benchmarks, measuring carbon footprints, implementing carbon reduction strategies, and enhancing energy management within government infrastructure.

This will assist Sarawak in delivering more sustainable public services and achieving its carbon neutrality goals.

Last October, SAINS and Alibaba Cloud embarked on their collaboration with a Memorandum of Agreement, launching a high-tech, innovative, and secure cloud solution powered by Alibaba Cloud in Malaysia.

The newly inked partnership further demonstrates Alibaba Cloud’s long-term commitment to empowering Malaysia as a high value-added economy.
