KUCHING: Islamic leaders need to progress alongside the development of the global economy, particularly in the field of science, according to Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.

He said science plays a crucial role in competing in the global economy, noting his focus on the development of hydrogen technology in Sarawak, which includes the utilisation of hydrogen-powered buses and Autonomous Rapid Transit (ART) vehicles, as well as exploring green energy.

“Alhamdulillah, the world has given recognition to Sarawak in this policy and invited me to give a speech related to the industry in Poland, Japan and also Bangkok.

“InsyaAllah, by August, Australia will also invite me to give a talk on hydrogen,” he said.

He said this when officiating 21st Hikmah Triennial Delegate Assembly at Hikmah Exchange here today (Jun 2).

Having said that, he urged all Muslim leaders to remain in the know and take global changes seriously.

“We need to have knowledge and learn to find solutions to issues that affect human life while taking into account these changes,” he said.
