KUCHING: The Sarawak Federation of Chinese Associations (SFCA) has lauded Sarawak’s Budget 2025 as expansionary, inclusive and visionary.

Its president Datuk Richard Wee commended the government’s continued commitment to expanding allocations for infrastructure projects, which aim to enhance connectivity and open up rural areas for economic activities.

“All these projects, apart from providing the essential needs, will also have the substantial economic spinoffs and multiplier effect on the economy as a whole,” he said when contacted by Sarawak Tribune.

Moreover, he pointed out that the social inclusivity is also addressed in many of the initiatives outlined in the budget for the increased welfare for the rakyat particularly the low and medium income group such as the financial aid to all qualified Sarawakians with an annual income if below RM5000; RM500 medical aid to elderly; and financial aid of RM 10000 for first time house buyers among the B40 and M40 group.

“Additionally, the emphasis on assistance and nurturing of Micro, Small and Medium industries are welcome as this sector has been neglected in the federal budget.

“However, I would have liked to see more focus on medium industries as they are the main engine of growth in the entire economy,” he said.

Wee also commended the Budget’s forward-looking approach, particularly its emphasis on digitalising industries, government services, and supporting startups.

“The investment in education is another forward thinking initiative. To provide quality education for all qualified Sarawakian students  irrespective of financial background is to narrow the gap between the rural and urban divide.

“Additionally, the provision of tertiary education in STEM degrees for Sarawakian students will be another historical initiative. It will elevate the financial burden for families on top of the student loans and scholarships provided by Yayasan Sarawak.

“A comprehensive healthcare for all together with the Cancer Centre which has been long awaited.  All in all, a budget that covers all areas and all aspects from the cradle to the grave. A welcome budget that should be welcomed by all anak Sarawak,” he said.
