KUCHING: It was a clean sweep for all five Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) women candidates in the 15th general election (GE15).
The women candidates that were fielded under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) ticket are Datuk Nancy Shukri at Santubong; Datuk Rubiah Wang at Samarahan; Rodiyah Sapiee at Batang Sadong; Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib at Mukah; and Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodie at Sri Aman.
Nancy Shukri managed to defend Datuk Seri Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar’s Santubong parliamentary seat with a majority of 38,681 votes.
She managed to secure 43,739 votes in total, defeating her opponents from Pakatan Harapan Mohamed Zen Peli (5,058 votes) and Independent Affendi Jeman (3,012 votes).
Kota Samarahan incumbent Datuk Rubiah Wang retained the seat with a majority of 29,445 votes in a straight fight against Pakatan Harapan (PH) Abang Halil. She garnered a total of 42,278 votes while Abang Halil polled 12,833.
Meanwhile, greenhorn GPS candidate Rodiyah Sapiee cried tears of happiness upon her winning in Batang Sadong parliamentary seat with a majority of 14,893 votes.
Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib managed to retain her seat. The Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) candidate secured 21,733 votes against her contender Abdul Jalil Bujang’s (Pakatan Harapan candidate) 6,047 votes, with a majority of 15,686 in this 15th general election (GE15).
As for Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Women chief Datuk Sri Doris Sophia Brodie, she defeated P202 Sri Aman incumbent Datuk Masir Kujat to win the seat for Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) in the GE15.
Doris secured 14,131 votes, thus winning with a majority of 4,039 against Independent Masir (5,673), Wilson Esabang (PSB) with 10,092 votes, and Pakatan Harapan’s (PH) Tay Wei Wei (2,021 votes).
