MUKAH: Incumbent Member of Parliament for Mukah Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib is one of the names mentioned to be contesting in the upcoming 15th General Election (GE15).
Residents in the Mukah parliamentary area have been given the opportunity to get to know her personally during her term in office since 2018 till this point, and according to community leaders in Mukah, they still want her to serve as their representative in the GE-15.
Suara Sarawak/New Sarawak Tribune had the opportunity to contact several community leaders in Mukah and ask their views on this matter.
According to the village head of Kampung Datuk Mukah Julaihi Hassan, Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib ought to be renominated for the P213 Mukah seat.
He declared that in his capacity as the village chief, he truly understood Hanifah’s care for the village and the neighbourhood.
“Throughout the term she has shown hard work towards physical and human development in her area, with young energy she is definitely able to continue her work.
“The commitment shown by her throughout the period is very encouraging.
“She is a people-friendly person and the demands of responsibility as a representative of the people always come first, social matters are never neglected and she meets leaders down to the grassroots to listen to the voice of the people,” Julaihi explained.
For the head of Tellian Ulu Village, Hairin Junang, he hopes that if Datuk Hanifah Hajar Taib is retained in the P.213 Mukah area but he wants Hanifah to be able to raise her key performance index (KPI) and pay more attention to her area.
“For me, Datuk Hanifah should be retained, considering that he is still new and still has the opportunity to raise the level of development of Mukah in general.
Tellian Tengah village head, Winnie Wena Dominic Lai wants Hanifah to be retained because she believes there is still an opportunity for Hanifah to prove her leadership.
“In terms of the proposal, I hope that if Datuk Hanipah succeeds in becoming a Member of Parliament again, I hope that she will be able to implement what the people have requested and wanted, which is about the Mukah Hospital that has specialist doctors.
“This is to make it easier for patients so that they do not need to go to Bintulu Hospital or Sibu Hospital for further treatment,” Winnie added.
As for Kapitan Kang Boon Eong, he thinks that Datuk Hanifah has a brilliant idea in uniting the community with her own initiative.
“Certainly through the success of the Lantern Festival in Mukah Division on last day which was attended by more than 2,000 participants from various races in Mukah, proving that she has the best thinking in community unification.
“I think she deserves to be re-nominated because she is one of the experienced, educated people, socially she is a friendly person, works hard and mixes with all walks of life.
“However, even though the Mukah Division has been established for a long time, we here hope that she can continue to help solve the issue of telecommunication access, in addition to being able to create a hospital with expert staff and complete stadium facilities including swimming pools and the like which are a necessity,” he explained.
