KUCHING: All mosques and surau in the state are complying well with the movement control order (MCO), said Assistant Minister in Chief Minister’s Department (Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi.

He clarified that all religious activities and Friday congregational prayers had been suspended temporarily following the Covid-19 pandemic.

“To date, we have yet to receive any reports from Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) and state Islamic Religious Department (Jais) on Friday prayers at mosques or surau.

He was speaking to reporters after presenting food aid to heads of villages at  Masjid Darul Hana at Jalan Tun Salahuddin on Sunday.

“Jais has circulated the MCO guidelines to all 1,400 mosques and surau in Sarawak.

“The restriction on congregational prayers at the premises is to curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus,” he said.
