LUNDU: All parties have a role to play in guiding today’s youth, stressed Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.
“It is the responsibility of all mothers, fathers, people’s representatives and leaders to engage with the youth and lead them on the track.
“If we fail to do so, the nation will fall,” he said when officiating at the Lundu district-level Jelajah Belia Sarawak 2020 held at Lundu Indoor Stadium here yesterday.
He said every parent wished their children to be successful but stressed that success must not measured by cash or enrolment to university.
“There are so many technical colleges and institutions and there are some people who did not go to the university but are still successful.
“What’s important is that you must have a target and direction in life. If you are able to achieve your target or slightly close to it, you will feel content and that is also a success.
“That is why you must focus on what you are interested in. Hone your skills and talents by going to a technical college and upon your graduation, you will be a skilled person who can also contribute to the nation,” he added.
Also present was Tanjong Datu assemblywoman Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, Youth and Sports Ministry’s permanent secretary Nancy Jolhi, Lundu District Officer Gustian Durani and Lundu District Council secretary Norashikin Brahim.
