KUCHING: The celebration of Malaysia Day is a significant event in strengthening the unity between Sarawak, Sabah, and Peninsular Malaysia.
Deputy Education, Innovation, and Talent Development Minister Datuk Francis Harden Hollis said that Malaysia Day, celebrated annually on September 16, should be observed by all Malaysians, not just in Sarawak but throughout the country.
“We jointly formed the country of Malaysia. Therefore, we must remain loyal to this nation and its ruling government, especially in Sarawak,” he said.
He spoke during a Juh Randau talk show programme organised by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) at the Baitulmakmur Building here yesterday.
He added that cooperation among all parties was key to the country’s stability.
“When the government is stable, focus can be given to economic and infrastructure development.
“Political stability allows us to concentrate on important matters, particularly balanced infrastructure development throughout the country,” he added.
He also emphasised that frequent visits to rural areas were made to provide guidance and advices to the villagers.
“I always advise them to take advantage of the government’s stability to earn a living and improve their families.
“The concept of unity, such as ‘segulai-segulai,’ should be instilled to ensure that the relationship among the people remains strong,” he stated.
He hoped that the spirit of unity and cooperation would continue to be the foundation of Malaysia’s stability and prosperity in the future.
