KUCHING: The Divisional Disaster Management Committee in the state is ready to face any possibility of floods that is expected to occur this month or February.

Sarawak Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas said that all although while dealing with the Covid-19 situation, all Divisional Disaster Management Committee have been alerted to be prepared for the flood.

“Now is the wet season, the monsoon season. Actually if you study what has happened in the past, Semenanjung Malaysia will get the floods first and probably by January to February, it will come to Sarawak.

“So, our Divisional Disaster Management Committee have been alerted, while they are busy with Covid-19, they also preparing to face should there be any flood in the state,” he said in a press conference on the daily Covid-19 update on Tuesday (Jan 5). 

He said the standard operating procedures (SOP) on managing the flood during the Covid-19 pandemic are also in place.

“We pray that while we are battling we Covid-19, there will not be any incident of flood,” he said.
