KUCHING: A part-time insurance agent who was detained at Kuching International Airport after authorities found drugs in her baggage was charged with distributing 18.264kg of cannabis in the magistrate’s court here today (May 6).

Magistrate Zaiton Anuar ordered Maxine Rose Frederick, 26, from Kampung Cemerlang to be further detained at Puncak Borneo prison without recording her confession.

Maxine looked calm as the charges were read in front of her in Malay and nodded in understanding.

The court set June 15 for re-mention of the case.

The accused was charged under Section 39B (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same act.

She faces the mandatory sentence if convicted.

The accused was charged with committing the offence at 3.25pm ​​at the arrival hall of Kuching International Airport on April 28.

She had arrived from Kuala Lumpur after being there to accompany her mother who was undergoing medical treatment in the federal capital.
