SIBU: A 41-year-old man pleaded not guilty to a charge of drug trafficking before the High Court here yesterday (Apr 5).

The accused, Jeffry Lepa pleaded not guilty to trafficking in dangerous drug, to wit, 72.52 grams of methamphetamine at a parking area in Lorong Tun Ahmad Zaidi Adruce at about 3pm on Nov 26 last year.

The offence is listed under Section 39B(1)(a) of Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, punishable under Section 39B(2) of the same Act.

He faces the death penalty or imprisonment for life, and shall, if he is not sentenced to death, be punished with whipping of not less than 15 strokes.

Deputy public prosecutor Mark Kenneth Netto appeared for the prosecution while Jeffry was represented by legal counsel Orlando Chua. High Court Judge Wong Siong Tung fixed the case for further mention on June 19.
