AN APPLICATION for funds to build a bus terminal in Kapit will be made under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) Mid-Term Review (KSP).
Deputy Minister for Transport (Aviation and Road) Datuk Dr Jerip Susil said express buses require terminal and other related facilities.
“Therefore, the Ministry of Transport has collaborated with relevant government agencies to discuss and identify suitable sites for the construction of bus terminals in Kapit,” he said in response to Wilson Nyabong Ijang (GPS-Pelagus) who wanted to know the status of the proposed Kapit Express Bus Terminal construction during question-and-answer time yesterday (May 19).
He said there would be discussions involving the Kapit District Council, Kapit Divisional Land and Survey Department, and the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) chaired by the Kapit Divisional Resident.
“With the availability of this bus terminal, it is expected that an efficient and comfortable bus service can be provided to the residents in Kapit Division,” he said.
Answering a supplementary question from Wilson on the bus station site, Dr Jerip said three sites identified as sites A, B and C were being considered.
“However, my ministry deems that site C which comprises Lot 386 and 772 and Lot 389, 393, Block 12 Menuan Land district and part of Lot 59 Block 12 Menuan Land district is more appropriate.
“The reason why we chose this site is because it has been approved for mixed development which includes one unit of commercial building and a bus terminal.
“Site C is owned by Housing Development Corporation and a private entity also owns it,” he said.
