KUALA LUMPUR: The government should allow offices, shops and factories to resume their operations after May 12, albeit with strict observance of health and safety precautions, said Datuk NK Jasani, country managing partner of Grant Thornton Malaysia PLT.
The health and safety measures include daily temperature checks, using face masks and sanitizers, frequent hand washing, conducting anti-virus fogging and ensuring social distancing, he said in a statement today.
Jasani said that companies should also use video conferencing for meetings, and to report and act immediately on any health concerns, adding that the companies must be held strictly held accountable but be allowed to operate under the stipulated conditions.
“If there is delay in implementing the above, we will have numerous business failures, high unemployment rates and growing pockets of poverty.
“We are already seeing the impact of the pandemic, such as closures, retrenchments and downsizing of the workforce,” he said.
Meanwhile, Jasani commended Ministry of Health’s director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah’s leadership in efforts to reduce the number of new Covid-19 cases.
“At the same time, the government has taken a much more focused approach of testing and treating the high clusters areas.
“The nation applauds the great work by the director-general, his team and all the frontliners. We hope that our situation will continue to improve and that we will all overcome this testing time, together,” he added. – Bernama
