THE Sarawak Alternative Water Supply Programme (SAWAS) project in Banting, Lingga is expected to be implemented this year.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications II Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi said that currently, the project was still in the tender evaluation process.

“There are 11 longhouses and approximately 268 households will benefit from this SAWAS project for Banting, Lingga in Bukit Begunan,” he said.

Dr Abdul Rahman said this in reply to Datuk Mong Dagang (GPS – Bukit Begunan) who asked about the status of the water supply project under SAWAS programme for Banting, Lingga on the fourth day of the DUN Sitting today.

To another supplementary question, the deputy minister said that the estimated cost of the project was about RM10 million.

“The scope of work comprises rehabilitation of the existing dam and filtration system, installation of new pipeline and water storage tank,” he said.
