KUCHING: Seventy-two teams comprising 300 female civil servants from federal and state departments embarked on the Amazing Race: The Garden 2023 at State Legislative Assembly (DUN) Building here this morning (Oct 28).
The event, organised by the Malaysian Government Servants Welfare and Sports Council (MAKSAK) Women Sarawak, was flagged off by Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg earlier at 8am.
Aligning with the theme of ‘The Garden’, participants were seen donned in eye-catching colourful costumes intricately adorned with flowers, setting the tone for the spirited competition and camaraderie.
MAKSAK Women Sarawak Honorary Secretary, Norhayati Mornie explained that the choice of the theme ‘The Garden’ was aimed at encouraging the utilisation of gardens in the vicinity.
“Not a lot of people know the many gardens surrounding us. With this theme, we want to let more people know the existence of such gardens in many places and hopefully use them,” she told reporters after the flag off of the race.
Additionally, the objective of the race was to instil vital skills such as teamwork, leadership, decision-making, and risk-taking among the participants.
Beyond the competitive spirit, the event aimed to foster an environment where experiences related to motivation, self-confidence, and creativity could be shared.
The race mapped out a course through five key locations all equipped with gardens, commencing at the DUN Building and spanning Jalan Astana, Taman Unity, Pasar Satok, Wisma SABATI, Medan Hamidah and concluding back to DUN Building at 12pm.
Participants will be met with challenges at every location, where teamwork is required to unveil clues to progress to the next location.
Notably, this edition of the race marked the highest participation turn out since its inception in 2012.
Also in attendance were State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki and State Attorney General Datuk Saferi Ali.
