The Internet has revolutionised the way we shop. Because of the many advantages and benefits, more people these days prefer buying things online over the conventional method of going into stores. Plus, shopping online allows them to find many products that they cannot find in a physical store.
Things you never know you need
Online shopping has been the saviour for many, especially with the restrictions implemented during the pandemic. With most shopping malls and physical stores not allowed to operate during the movement control order (MCO), many depended on online shopping to fulfil their desire and to get necessities.
With the popular shopping platforms such as Shopee, Lazada, Zalora and many more, the options are practically limitless. From clothing and food, to household items and many more, you can basically get anything that you desire on the internet nowadays. As you go down the black hole of exploring these online shopping applications, you will usually find items that you never know you need, or ones you never know exist.
Since early June, the MCO was re-implemented in Sarawak to curb the spread of Covid-19. This leaves many at home with ample time at home doing nothing.
I, myself was not spared from the boredom the MCO had given me.
Everyday, what was supposed to be just a 10-minute scroll to look for essential items robbed me hours of my time, and money. Furthermore, the regular 6.6, 7.7 and Payday sales pulled me even more!
Here are some of the interesting and useful items I found while shopping online.
Bag sealer
I chanced upon this item while I was searching for a sealer to seal my opened snacks. While browsing, I stumbled upon the bag sealer with an opening for easy pouring. I thought how convenient it would be to eat my chips with this. I wouldn’t need to dirty my fingers to pick the chips, and they wouldn’t spill when I tried to pour the chips into my mouth.
Furthermore, I can also use it to store sugar or Milo. It is a convenient innovation — something I didn’t know I needed.
Air-cond remote cover
This is one of the items I bought.
The cover came in two designs — plain, and one with bunny ears — and you can choose either for your air-cond remote or television remote.
Since I use the former regularly, I bought the cover for it. When it arrived, it certainly made my husband question my shopping decisions.
However, it proved to be useful by keeping the remote clean.
It was one of those purchases that served no purpose, but hey, for less than RM3 with free shipping (thank you sales day!), it was too cute not to buy.
Flower-shaped soap dispenser
When I received it, I unboxed the package together with my husband. He was dumbfounded and immediately warned me to get off the internet. He knew that I bought the dispenser after watching videos about it on social media. Having fallen victim to the marketing tactics of this hand soap, I spent RM11 just to have flower-shaped foam to wash my hands with.
The verdict? Everyone in the household loved it and it was amusing getting a flower-shaped foam to wash your hands with. Even after a week, everyone is still intrigued by it. The seller offers two different scents, and I bought the cherry blossom instead of the strawberry. Aesthetics aside, the hand soap feels clean, just like any normal hand soap.
Spray mop
This is one of the items that I’m proud of as I believed that I made a good decision. Normally, mopping the floor with a bucket in tow and having to clean the bucket afterwards is a hassle.
Although clever innovations such as the 360-degree dry bucket mop or the flat mop were made, the trouble is still there and mopping the house still feels like a burden.
The spray mop was the answer that I’ve been looking for. The design is pure genius, linking the water compartment to the mop.
Now, I can just fill up the bottle with detergent and water, and get straight to work. Though I feel that it is not really suitable for bigger areas as the mop cloth can get real dirty in a matter of minutes, it certainly helps to get the job done. When it gets too dirty, you need to wash the mop cloth first, but not to worry, it came with spare mop clothes that you can simply change to save time.
All in all, it is perfect for cleaning one room at a time. What I like the most about the ‘Deerma’ brand spray mop is the microfibre cloth. It helps to clean up debris along the way without releasing it back to the floor.
