KUALA LUMPUR: National gymnast Amy Kwan Dict Weng is focused on regaining her form when the national rhythmic gymnastics squad resume training at the National Sports Council gymnasium on July 5.

The 2018 Best Sportswoman of the Year said her biggest challenge at the moment is to keep her physical condition in the best shape possible while avoiding injuries during training next week.

“Before this I’ve been dreaming about getting back to training, dancing to the music so I am really grateful that athletes can resume normal training after receiving the green light from the National Sports Council,” she told Bernama recently.

Kwan said she would be vying for more success in the future, after having achieved numerous positive results in international events in the past few years.

Among the best achievements of the 25-year-old gymnast was winning the gold medal at the 2018 Gold Coast Commonwealth Games, besides securing the silver medal at the 2018 Asian Championship in Kuala Lumpur.

“When you’ve reached 25 years and need to maintain the flexibility of your body, that is the first challenge, and then the second, your stamina; but I will go for intensive training based on my body condition.

“I don’t want to overexert myself while I also don’t want to give up easily,” the 2018 Female Olympian of the Year added. – Bernama
