PENOM: Betong needs an air strip that can be used by planes to bring rural products quickly to overseas markets.
This was pointed out yesterday by Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg at the leader-with-people session held at Rumah Francis Nyanggau in Penom, Betong.
“I understand that the Gunung Sadok Agropolitan Project involves more than 300,000 hectares of land which will later become food basket areas. The products must be sold fast and directly to the markets.
“The government has to concentrate on two main aspects, which involve the power of information and communication technology (ICT) and logistics, to transform the rural economy,” he said.
Johari added that the state government would upgrade the Internet speed to two terabytes while the logistic facilities would continue to be strengthened.
The Chief Minister said the state government would also develop Native Customary Right (NCR) land in joint efforts with companies appointed on equity concept to benefit the people.
He said land that had been perimeter surveyed without any problem or issue would be issued with titles.
Johari’s visit to Penom was his first visit to Betong since becoming the Chief Minister.
Earlier on, Johari was briefed on Gunung Sadok Agropolitan Project in Ulu Awik near Saratok.
Also present were the Chief Minister’s wife, Datin Amar Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, former Deputy Chief Minister, Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu Numpang, Deputy State Secretary, Datu Haji Ismawi Ismuni and other distinguished guests.
