KUCHING: Come the dry season the usual quiet along Sungai Tellian, located more than five kilometres from Mukah town, makes way for a hive of activity.
This is when hordes of anglers descend on the river in the hope of landing a prize catch from boats, overhead bridges, jetties and what have you.
The river, reputedly clean and pollution free, teems with various marine life and no angler worth his salt wants to be left out especially at this time.
Over the years the river, which has a reddish black colour, has thus become quite an attraction for fishing enthusiasts from both in and outside Mukah.
Germanus Aloysius who is one of the regulars said now being the season for lobsters and various types of fish makes the river a popular spot for fishing.
According to him, because the Tellian water is always clean and shielded from unhealthy activities, fresh lobsters and fish abound.
Even shrimps caught from the river taste different from other places, he said.
According to Germanus, the fishing activities also help increase the income of villagers in Mukah, through the rental of boats for fishing and so on.
