SARIKEI: An Anjung Usahawan Sarikei will be established, offering more comfort to small traders and entrepreneurs, particularly those situated at the Downtown Night Market in Kampung Seberang Sarikei.
Deputy Minister of Urban Planning, Land Administration and Environment Datuk Len Talif Salleh said he took the initiative to include the construction of the Anjung Usahawan in the development plan of the Rajang Delta Development Agency (RADDA) in order to create a more conducive and orderly business environment.
“Presently, these small entrepreneurs are still operating on the existing sites and often face challenges during heavy rain and strong winds, which frequently result in damages to their equipment, especially the canopies they use,” he said.
He said this when officiating at the Jelajah Genta Belia 2023 programme for Sarikei division organised by the Sarikei Division Youth and Sports Office at the Downtown Night Market of Kampung Seberang Sarikei here recently.
The Kuala Rajang assemblyman further said there is a necessity of diversifying economic opportunities for rural youth.
“There is a need to elevate their economic status beyond traditional sectors like agriculture and plantations, which have historically driven rural youth migration to urban centres.
“Therefore, the youth should explore emerging economic sectors such as the digital economy and modern agriculture, which can help elevate their economic well-being while allowing them to remain in their rural communities,” he said.
By doing so, he said the rural youth can channel their talents and efforts toward enacting positive transformations within these rural areas.
He further mentioned this is in line with the spirit of the youth themselves, who serve as catalysts for bringing among meaningful change.
